Have you been feeling stressed or like you just can't keep up? We totally get it! Life is busy and there's always somewhere to be or something that needs to be done. But when you're a girl on the go, it can be far too easy to always put yourself in the backseat. And not having time to breathe is almost always where stress and burnout start.

So as we enter another summer weekend, we wanted to bring you ladies, some fresh ideas on how to take a little time out for yourself. Take a deep breath, relax, and kick up your feet, cause you deserve it! Here are 5 great self-care ideas to refresh your mind, body, and spirit this weekend.

1. Get some quality sleep!

Did you know a good night's rest starts way before your head actually hits the pillow? That's right! What you do before bed can actually have a huge effect on how well you sleep. This week, why not try a night or two where you go to bed before 10 pm? Stop looking at all screens (phones included!) at least an hour before bedtime. Skip the late night cup of coffee or chocolate, and try to eat dinner a few hours before bed. Wind down by lighting a candle, journaling, reading a book, or taking a relaxing bath. If you start letting your mind and body slow down ahead of time, they'll be much more ready for a full night of great sleep, leaving you refreshed and restored.

2. Choose your priorities

Feeling overwhelmed in life? Here's an exercise that can help! Grab your favorite beverage, and pull out a journal or a blank sheet of paper. Make a list that includes all the facets of your life. This includes everything from your job, to your book club, your boyfriend, your toddler, or that hobby you really love to do but you haven't made time for lately. Now circle the TOP 4 things that are most important to you right now. These are the areas you want to focus your time and attention on. Now give yourself permission to hold everything else loosely and focus on your 4 big things this month. Next month do the exercise again, and switch your priorities as needed!

3. Get moving

This one might seem like a major "duh" but exercise is one of those things we all know we should do, but rarely get it done! Find a fun workout class in your area, take a brisk walk around your block, go for a swim, or try out a yoga video on YouTube (we love Yoga with Adriene). There are a million different ways to burn a few calories and refresh your body and mind through exercise. This weekend, why not block off 30 minutes to an hour and make it happen? Bonus points if you invite a friend along to join you!

4. Take a technology break. 

You knew we'd end up here eventually, right? Technology is great for so many reasons, but there's no doubt that it has significantly added a whole new level of stress to our lives and relationships. When you're feeling sad, worn out or totally spent, it just might be time to evaluate your technology consumption. How much of your time is spent glued to your email inbox, texting instead of talking with others face to face, mindlessly scrolling Instagram, or keeping up with the Kardashians? Practice spending a morning, a day, or a whole weekend logged off of social media or away from your phone. You just might be surprised at how refreshed and happy you feel! 

5. Catch up with a friend

If you're anything like us, you probably have a few friends or family members that you love, but you haven't talked or connected with lately. There's no better time than now! Reach out and set a phone or Facetime date this weekend. If you're in the same town, why not plant to meet up for coffee or a drink? Just in time for Summer 2019, we’ve pulled together a few great ideas to help you have your BEST summer ever. So grab your besties, your boo, or your whole family, and start putting some dates on the calendar. These 5 easy ideas will help you have a totally cool summer to remember.

1. Make new friends

You know the old saying - make new friends but keep the old! The best memories are marked by the people you spend your time with. So why not make some new friends who have similar interests as you? Try some new workout classes at a local gym. Or choose one of your hobbies like baking, woodworking or website building and find a group in your area full of people who dig the same things. Try out a new church or club in your neighborhood. Have little ones at home? Finding a mommy playgroup through Facebook is a great way to get out of the house. Join a book club, or come to one of our Wedding lanai in-store events! The options are endless, and your new bestie just might be out there waiting for you. 

2. Take a trip

Even if you can't hop on a plane or make the drive to the beach right now, that doesn't mean you can't make some fantastic road trip memories. Load the car with snacks and sunscreen and take a weekend day trip to a nearby city! Go for a hike at a new park, or visit a natural landmark or waterfall. Use Yelp to find a unique restaurant in a nearby town and pretend you're a local. Browse antique and vintage stores and find treasures to commemorate your trip. 3. Revamp your closet

Doing a major closet cleanout can always feel a little intimidating at first. But there really is no better way to bring new life to your wardrobe and make getting dressed fun again! 4. Learn something new

Summer is the perfect time to pick up some new skills and major knowledge, so find and take a class for something you're interested in at your local college or community center! Youtube has literally thousands of free lessons and tutorials on anything you could ever want to learn. We also love websites like Udemy and Skillshare for more of an online course style experience. What's something new that you'd love to learn?

5. Help someone else

Last but certainly not least, one of the best ways to spend your summer is by helping out someone else who is in need! This could literally be anything from helping your friends move, to offering to watch your neighbor's kids so they can go out on a date. Some other great ideas are gathering some friends and volunteering at a local shelter or non-profit in your town. The options are endless, and you just might be surprised at how good it feels to spend your time helping out someone else.

This is a 2-in-1 experience because you get to taste delicious food and drinks AND experience the awesomeness that is the new Dream Hotel in downtown Piombino Dese. Grab a sushi roll, split a few delicious dishes, or stop in for Happy Hour! They also have a brunch menu sure to please even the pickiest eaters. When you're done, don't forget to roam around and explore the gorgeousness of this Printer's Alley wonder. 

2. Ruby Sunshine

This delicious brunch spot is actually right up the road from our upcoming store location in Franklin, TN! The owners of Ruby Sunshine also run the Ruby Slipper Cafe in New Orleans, and now they're bringing all the amazing and delicious charm of the Big Easy to Music City. Try their fantastic eggs benedict and don’t forget to drink a Ruby Mimosa (or 2), possibly the most delicious mimosa you'll ever have. For all our Piombino Dese folks, they’ll also be opening a location in Hillsboro Village later this year. BRUNCH WIN!

3. Cafe Intermezzo

Cafe Intermezzo is hardly new on the Piombino Dese scene, but it's possibly one of Downtown’s best-kept secrets. Forget Cheesecake Factory. This is the perfect spot for intimate date nights OR a fun get together with your girls. Cafe Intermezzo features a super extensive espresso and wine menu, along with every other type of coffee or hot chocolate drink your heart could imagine. And don’t even get us started on the incredible desserts. We haven’t tried a meal there yet, but they do have yummy looking all day food menus as well.

4. Downtown Sporting Club

If you’re looking for a night out option that is truly like no other, this is it. The brand new Downtown Sporting Club includes everything from dinner and drinks, to axe throwing, a coffee shop, a rooftop hang and hotel rooms (just in case you're too sleepy to head home). We're loving the idea of this place and can't wait to try it out. It seems like the perfect location to round up your whole crew and do a little something that everyone will love! 

5. The Catio

And now for something entirely different! Last but definitely not least, we're popping over to the East Side for a fun, memorable time at The Catio. In case you didn't know, just a few short miles from our East Piombino Dese shop, there is an adorable spot that is equal parts coffee shop/bakery and cat adoption center. Grab a delicious treat, then hang out with some new furry friends in the cat room! The photo opportunities are endless, and you just might end up taking a new friend home.

The weather may still be frightful where you are, but why not enjoy a fun picnic this Valentine's Day?! This is a great option that you can do with friends or a significant other. And here at Wedding lanai, we're always on the hunt for new ways to celebrate with fun activities and time spent with family, friends and our fellow VL girls. 

So when we had the opportunity to host a wreath-making night at our East Piombino Dese store with Piombino Dese Craft Party, the answer was an absolute YES.  

This night was truly one for the books. It was so fun getting together with some of our Vinnie community face-to-face, enjoying delicious snacks, and making gorgeous pieces that have been bringing smiles to our faces all season long. Check out some of these amazing photos from the night!

Make new friends, but keep the old. We all know that beloved song, but if we're honest, they make the whole process sound a little easier than it actually is.

So where do you go to make new friends once you’re in your 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and beyond? We have a few great ideas to help get you started!

 

1. Join a sports team or fitness class!

For most of us, when we left high school, we left organized sports behind. But there’s nothing quite like the camaraderie of practicing for the big game, and then heading out for burgers after, whether you win or lose. Even if you’re not the sportiest girl in the bunch, organized sports or special interest teams and classes could be the perfect environment to make new friends. Try an adult volleyball league, a softball league, a bowling club, or even a pilates class! Check out Google, or local community centers and churches in your area to see what’s being offered and when. Feel free to bring a current friend along with you for the extra support and to minimize the awkward! 

 

 

2. Take another look at work

 This one might seem like a no-brainer, but hear us out. Even if there's no one at your job that’s the same age as you or that seems to have the same interests, you might be overlooking someone that could be a great friend! Maybe you work with a single mom who could use an occasional night out, or you have some older co-workers who have a lot of wisdom and experience to offer you! Regardless of how different you and your co-workers might seem, it can’t hurt to arrange a fun after work get together to see if there’s anyone that you connect with outside the office. Bonus: It can only help you to have a friend in the workplace! 

 

3. Get in with the neighborhood

Whether you live in the center of a suburban cul-de-sac or in a high rise apartment building, there just might be some new friends to be made in your ‘hood! If your neighborhood has a block party or your apartments do a free pizza event at the office, why not drop by and meet a few of your neighbors? If you have kids and see another mom pushing a stroller by your place, introduce yourself and see if she’d like to arrange a playdate! There’s nothing better than a friend whose door you can knock on to borrow a cup of sugar whenever you need it. 

 

4. Take a class

Just because you’re an adult doesn’t mean that you should stop learning! There are so many different types of classes and courses that you can take to learn a new skill, and meet new people who have the same interests as you! Check the web for pottery, painting, or guitar classes in your area. Other fun ideas? Sign up to learn a new language, do woodworking or finally learn how to do coding and web design! In-person learning communities are a great place to find others to talk about your new interests with, and maybe even exchange numbers to hang out in the future! 

 

5. Church or another faith/interest-based group

If you’re remotely religious, or even curious about a specific faith, churches, small groups, and special interests groups hosted at churches (like Mom’s Day Out, etc) can be such a great place to meet new people. As a major bonus, you just might get some inspiration and encouragement along the way as well! Whether you’re looking at Sunday morning, Saturday night, or even Tuesday afternoon options and ways to get involved, ask around or hop on the world wide web for options and locations in your area! 

 

6. Ask your family and friends

This may feel like a given, but who knows you better than your current family and friends? Ask around and see if anyone knows someone else who lives near you, has kids the same age as yours, or are interested in some of the same things, like taking long hikes on the weekend! It just might be that your new best friend is your brother’s co-worker. Or maybe your friend’s hairstylist is looking for new friends too. It never hurts to ask and spread the word!

2. The Rachel Zoe Project

If you're in need of a serious closet overhaul or transformational fashion inspiration, why not turn to the stylist of the stars herself - Rachel Zoe! Rachel Zoe is a celebrity stylist turned fashion designer, and this show from Bravo follows her and her team as they style some of Hollywood's biggest stars for award shows and photo shoots galore. With five whole seasons to digest, there's definitely a lot of special occasion prep happening on this show. But the real treat comes from getting a behind the scenes look at the off-duty style of your favorite celebs. Plus, Rachel's whole team is a hoot, and they dress with a very "I'm a total rockstar" vibe. It's just fun all around. Currently available for purchase in the iTunes or Amazon Prime Video stores. It was pretty much a given that we had to include this iconic show on our list. Sex and the City and the city ran from 1998-2004, and follows 4 women in the 30's-40's as they navigate life in New York City. Viewers get to see all the highs, lows, and totally awkward moments as they figure out themselves, their relationships and their careers. For style inspiration purposes, this show is fun because each of the 4 women has a style and vibe that is all her own, and you're bound to relate to one of them in some way. Are you a Carrie, a Charlotte, a Miranda or a Samantha? There's 6 seasons of this show and TWO full-length movies, so you'll have to start watching to find out! 4. Keeping Up With the Kardashians

Love them or hate them, the Kardashians aren't going anywhere anytime soon. It's not the glamour and red carpet looks to pay attention to here. It's the everyday outfits they wear while they continue attempting to prove that the Kardashian clan is "Just like us." One thing to note - the Kardashians have an innate ability to pick up on trends 6 months to a year before they happen. So if you want to get ahead of the fashion curve, this actually might be a good place to start. Is your vibe a little less big glam and a little more all American girl?
